When one of my favourite people asked me to help with her daughters birthday party i jumped at the chance. Having my children’s parties squashed in the first half of the year was not well thought out for a kids party addict, but i didn’t know back then that I would take up baking as a hobby or that my husband would only let me have three kids ha ha. I was given the theme ‘Woodland’ and ‘purple’. I was pretty excited as I have always wanted to do a woodland party, so I painted an invitation with a hedgehog, fox and squirrel wearing party hats and hoped that they would like it. Once I had the go ahead for those characters I asked MACStencils to make some cookie cutters for the main cookies. The toadstool was Meri Meri cutter i already had.

I baked some vanilla cup cakes and topped them with a chocolate buttercream, a fondant ivy leaf and an edible flower from my garden. My lovely middle child wanted to join in the party prep so made all of the fondant ivy leaves. Kids can really surprise you with their talents! The birthday girl always loves my chocolate covered oreos so i made some in milk chocolate with a dark chocolate swirl to resemble a slice of a tree log and adorned them with more fondant leaves and fresh flowers.

I hand cut the cake topper cookies as the fox was different from my cutters and they were all wearing party hats. Then I set lots of chocolate to cover the sides of cake, which was tricky as i was adhering to the one piece of chocolate for the bowl, one piece in my mouth ratio. The birthday girl had requested a very chocolate cake, so it was layers of chocolate coconut sponge, sandwiched with chocolate buttercream and covered in chocolate pieces, topped with cookies and ivy fondant leaves. It was a beautiful woodland party x
