Tennis Cookies

With Wimbledon on at the moment I thought it would be fun to make some tennis themed treats so here is my tennis cookie DIY.

Ingredients

  • Cookie dough
  • Royal icing powder
  • Food colouring (used Wilton gel colours)
  • Edible paint

Tools

  • Paint brush
  • Toothpick

Make up some cookie dough and cut out your cookies. I repurposed my MACStencils maraca cookie cutter for the tennis racquets and a large piping nozzle to cut out the balls. Chill your cookies in the fridge for ten minutes before baking. While your cookies are cooling make up some think white icing and pop it in an icing bag.

Pipe lines one way across your cookie and then pipe the other to make a grid for the tennis racquet strings.

Then add some handles on to your racquets.

Finally pipe around the outside of the racquet and join it to the handle. Leave to dry.

Now for the balls, are they green or are they yellow? To solve the debate I added a little green and a little yellow colour to my icing to achieve the tennis ball colour. I made a thicker toothpaste consistency icing for the outlines and a thinner shampoo consistency to flood the cookie. I outlined all of the balls and flooded them with the thin icing using a toothpick to get rid of any air bubbles. Leave to dry.

Once they are dry you can add some ball details with the thick white icing.

Now to finish off the racquets! I used white edible paint to add some stripes on the handle, or you could ice the stripes on if you liked. I also used edible paint to paint the rim of the racquet. I used a pearlescent blue paint to make it fun and realistic.

Just for fun I also made some wristbands and a head sweat band with coconut and left over icing. Lovely to eat by themselves or to decorate some cupcakes. Instead of game set and match, bake, make and eat! X
